OPENING NIGHT SCREENING – AS YOU ARE 2016 Sundance Special Grand Jury Prize Winner
When you’re a teenager, finding a new best friend can carry the giddy thrill of falling in love for the first time. Everything is heightened; everything matters more. And connecting with someone on an intimate level who truly gets you can be intoxicating—even as you’re still figuring out who you are. Director and co-writer Miles Joris-Peyrafitte conveys that sensation in ways that are both dreamlike and startling with his assured feature debut, “As You Are.” At only 24, Joris-Peyrafitte shows confidence and talent beyond his years, with an artful eye for imagery and a truthful ear for dialogue. ICE EAGLES, the heroic story of U.S. aviation in Antarctica
A Sneak Preview: ICE EAGLES by documentary filmmaker Tom Henderson
An heroic account of American aviation in Antarctica, ICE EAGLES reveals the extraordinary history of the frozen continent. The most challenging and dangerous flying outside of combat, this remarkable story is about those who accepted the challenge, what they endured and accomplished, what they suffered and lost. Much of what has been learned about Antarctica would not have been possible without the efforts of these pilots and the dedicated personnel who built and maintained the air facilities. Henderson uncovers the entire history from Admiral Byrd’s first expedition in 1928 to the present day activities of Operation Deep Freeze. Part 1 of 2 screened.
A Q&A with director, Tom Henderson, and editor, Tracy Cring (Lee’s 88 Keys) followed.
